THE BUCKET TROPHY

Award Criteria

The 2025 Bucket Trophy will be awarded to the yacht which succeeds on the racecourse, while demonstrating their commitment to the time-honored spirit of the Bucket throughout this unrivaled superyacht event.

Yachts eligible for this prestigious award are the class winners in cruising superyacht classes ⁽¹⁾. This first award criterion is strictly objective.

The second criterion measures the competitiveness of each class. This is determined by using both objective and subjective components:

The objective, quantitative criterion considers series points and overall time differential. The class with the closest series points and overall time differentials will earn the top objective competitive class score ⁽²⁾. (The differentials are the difference in series points between first and third place finishers and their total time divided by total distance for all races).

The subjective criterion for class competitiveness involves numerous considerations including, but not limited to seamanship, the number of well sailed yachts in class, and class size. Impacts of breakdowns and protests are also considered. A panel of five individuals will determine the subjective competitive class scores, based on firsthand observations and race tracking ⁽³⁾.

The third criterion ensures that the awardee is a yacht owner, who along with the crew and guests, has competed and participated in the true, enduring Spirit of the Bucket. The assessment of this subjective component is made by the same panel of five ⁽³⁾.

(1) “Cruising superyacht”: A cruising yacht as defined by the SuperYacht Racing Association (2023-SYRA-Cruising-Yacht-Definition.pdf) with a minimum LOA of 30 meters
